What does the WIDA SCREENER score mean and how can it help me?
The WIDA Screener score can be a great resource for determining where your student is at in their English Language Proficiency. It can also help teachers to select appropriate grade level materials and standards for grading. To this end, I have created a document that explains what each score means and how this score can be useful to teachers. This document is also linked on the WIDA page.
Who can help me support my students?
A few schools in our district have staff members who are specifically qualified to support ELL students and their teachers. At Vowles, this person is Yvonne McDowell, an ELL tutor. At Pullen, it is Sue Yoder, another ELL tutor. For any other building, staff should contact either Kim Funnell or Sarah Case for support. Sarah is a certified ESL teacher and works out of the MPHS Guidance Office.

What can i expect from my Ell students?
Your expectations for each ELL student should be based on their proficiency level. For most students this is indicated by their W-APT screening results. Teachers should contact Sarah Case or Kim Funnell for a report of their student's WIDA level. Once the level is known, teachers can consult the WIDA Can Do Descriptors for the specific level for a list of skills and expectations appropriate to the WIDA level. These Can Do Descriptors are located on the WIDA page.
